GENERAL
It is the expectation of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that the use of hazardous materials in University teaching, research, service, maintenance and other activities be kept to a minimum, consistent with the objectives of the activity undertaken.
It is the expectation of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that all wastes generated as a result of University activities (including but not limited to hazardous and radioactive wastes) be managed in a manner that will maximize protection of human health and the environment, and that all lands held or managed by the University be managed to the extent possible and consistent with the University’s mission in a manner that will result in appropriate use of natural resources and preservation of the natural environment for the benefit of the citizens of the State of North Carolina.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will make reasonable efforts to use recycled products and to minimize and recycle waste generated as a result of University activities in accordance with the requirements of its Part B Hazardous Waste Permit and the goals set out in Governor Hunt’s Executive Order Number 8.
All employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill should be aware of the University’s commitment to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and ordinances; and, to the extent possible and subject to existing agreements, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will require that its tenants and others using University property or engaging in University activities comply with environmental laws, regulations, and ordinances.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is committed to appropriate training as required by state and federal law for employees and students so they may perform their duties and conduct their activities in an environmentally responsible manner.
