Treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses is to be sought at the following locations:

For treatment of non-life threatening injuries, illnesses, or Occupational Exposure to Blood, Body Fluids, or HIV:
  1. During the hours of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday (except holidays), the University Occupational Health Clinic (UEOHC) which is located at 145 North Medical Drive
  2. After hours needlestick/human blood or body fluid exposures, please call UEOHC at 966-9119. The UEOHC line will automatically forward your call to Healthlink in order to gather the appropriate information and put you in contact with the Family Practice physician covering the needlestick hotline.
  3. For all other after-hour work related injuries that requires immediate medical care, go directly to the UNC Emergency Department. If immediate medical care is not needed, then please report to the UEOHC the following day.
  4. For serious and/or life-threatening injuries or illnesses, the Emergency Department located in the Neurosciences Hospital on Manning Drive or closest medical facility.

    Second Opinion

    If an employee is out of work for more than seven calendar days, the Environment, Health and Safety Office may require a second opinion to ensure appropriate follow-up. If required, the UEOHC arranges an appointment and notifies the employee of the date, time and location. The employee will be informed of the results of the appointment by the physician or the UEOHC.

    Institute of Marine Science, Community Practices and UNC TEACCH Facilities

    Institute of Marine Science, Community practices, and UNC TEACCH Centers located in Morehead City, Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Fayetteville, Henderson, and Wilmington may receive medical treatment at any local healthcare facility. These employees are to inform the facility that is workers' compensation.

    Kannapolis Campus

    UNC-CH employees who are employed at the Nutrition Research Institute in Kannapolis are to receive medical treatment at Cannon Urgent Care, dba Pinnacle Physicians Network located at 1035 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis. Please visit their website for additional information on the facility including map and directions.

    Cannon Urgent Care is available to treat work related injuries and illnesses 7 days a week between the hours of 9 am through 9 pm. When seeking medical treatment at Cannon Urgent Care please inform the facility that the injury is UNC Workers' Compensation.

    For life threatening injuries or after hours care, please seek medical attention at the nearest Emergency Medical facility.
